Convenient Integration: Many users have found IPAM's integration with the SolarWinds suite to be convenient for tracking multiple sites and subnets. This feature has been praised by several reviewers as it allows them to easily manage their IP address allocation and DNS updates in one centralized solution.

Efficient IP Management: The ability of IPAM to manage IP addresses and update DNS as soon as a device is discovered has been highly valued by users. This functionality has proven useful for managing IP address availability and ensuring accurate DNS updates, according to numerous reviewers.

Effective Capacity Planning: Users appreciate IPAM's ability to reserve and comment on IP addresses for effective IP address allocation and capacity planning. Several reviewers have noted that this feature helps them allocate IPs efficiently, avoid conflicts, and plan for future network expansion.

Slow, Clunky Web Interface: Many users have expressed frustration with the slow, clunky web interface of SolarWinds IP Address Manager. Users find it difficult to navigate and perform tasks efficiently, impacting their overall experience with the software.

Difficult Initial Setup: Several reviewers have reported that the initial setup of the software is not user-friendly and requires a learning curve. This can be challenging for new users who are unfamiliar with the Orion platform.

Limited Options for Organizing Devices: Users have complained about the limited options for organizing devices in SolarWinds IP Address Manager. They feel that there is a lack of flexibility in the licensing tiers and find it difficult to effectively organize their devices as per their requirements.

Users commonly recommend the following regarding the software for managing IP addresses:

  1. Trying the free option before purchasing: Many users suggest taking advantage of the free version of the software to get a feel for its functionality and suitability for their needs. This allows users to assess whether it meets their requirements before committing to a paid version.

  2. Considering other options like InfoBlox and Mice & Men: Some users suggest exploring alternative software options such as InfoBlox or Mice & Men. These alternatives may offer different features or better meet specific requirements, so users recommend comparing different solutions to find the best fit.

  3. Looking for bundle purchase with other products for a better deal: Reviewers mention that while the software itself can be pricey, they recommend exploring bundle purchases that include additional products or services. By bundling multiple products together, users may be able to secure a better deal or more cost-effective licensing options.

It is important to note that users also mention areas for improvement, such as inadequate support and resource-intensive nature of the software. However, these are not counted as among the three most common recommendations.

SolarWinds IP Address Manager Eliminates IP conflicts and saves time managing DHCP, DNS, and IP Addresses. It also scans subnets to show the open IP address, and adds and removes subnets. The disadvantage is the ability to select multiple IP addresses at one time and it some it overkills for smaller network and little high price.
  • Great tool for keeping track of IP addresses.
  • Dynamic IP lists and documentation.
  • Nice integration with other SolarWinds suite tool.
  • Try to integrate with service now
  • It showed the MAC addresses of the devices it finds on the scans.
  • Specific IP can be complicated
It is easy to use, and I recommend to try in any organization. It can manage so many groups of networks. One of the great features I like is it keeps a history of what it was used for x number of days, Gui based interface, and manage my DHCP and DNS from the same console.

We use IPAM to track subnet and host IP address assignments for our entire network. Primarily used for static IP assignments in our data centers and as a way to track dynamically assigned addresses from our DHCP infrastructure. This allows us to avoid assigning a duplicate IP addresses to static devices. The user interface is very intuitive and the color-coded icons allow us to quickly look down the list to see what addresses are being used and unused. Solarwinds also added a nice feature to test to see if the IP address is active elsewhere before reserving it. the search engine allows us to quickly focus on IP addresses at the subnet or host level.
  • Ease of use to assign/register IP addresses.
  • Easy search utility.
  • Intuitive.
  • Integration with Solarwinds Orion.
  • I do not see any holes in the product.
  • Ability to customize the user interface for management.
  • Ability to generate management graphical reports on IP status.
  • The ability to delegate user access to specific subnet or ranges.
An easy-to-use IP address manager that is integrated with Orion. This is a fully-featured application that is supported by the vendor's knowledgeable support staff. The graphical interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. We access the IPAM application throughout our network with a secure web connection and leverage the AD user account integration to lower our administrative overhead of the product.

We use SolarWinds IP Address Manager at the University to track IP addresses that are used. Before SolarWinds IP Address Manager we had to give various admins rights to various DHCP servers that they are responsible for managing and managing who had access to which severs was very difficult to track. With SolarWinds IP Address Manager I am able to assign rights to various DHCP scopes directly from SolarWinds making management far simpler.
  • IP address monitoring
  • IP address alerting for duplicates
  • Allow subnet management by user
  • SolarWinds IP Address Manager is a perfect product
We have 12 locations each with its own DHCP server as well as its own backup server, each with around 10-15 subnets. Tracking scope usage across 24 servers was very time-consuming and having SolarWinds IP Address Manager allows any admin to view all scopes from one management console. We were also able to set alerts to monitor when the scope was 90% filled and any duplicate IP addresses were detected. Previously when a scope was full, it would often go unnoticed until users complained they could not access resources and we had to assign a ticket and have a technician troubleshoot before the admin sees the job. Now with alerts on a scope's usage, that is a thing of the past.

We have been using Solarwinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) to manage our public and internal IP ranges for our data centers and branch offices, which are shared with several different teams. It works quite well to put everyone on the same page for the availability of so many different IP ranges of different locations.
  • Share IP availability of all IP ranges with different teams
  • Figure out location and purpose of each IP range
  • recycle IPs for decommissioned devices
  • It would be nice if the recycled/reused IPs will have the "history" records of their usage
It works very well if there are many IP ranges that need to be managed. For a very small network, it still works, however, the benefit may not be as much.

We are using it to manage our company's ips. It works well and also lets us know if the device is online or not. Makes it a lot easier than maintaining a spreadsheet.
  • Keeps tracks of all IP ranges you set up.
  • Lets you know when a device is online or not.
  • Ability to reserve IPs and label it so you know what it is for.
  • Security breach has us worried.
  • Faster interface would be nice.
  • Entire Orion platform has a lot of customizations and it can easily scare a person that is new to it.
IPAM will be well suited in an environment that has over 50 network devices in my opinion. More than that, it will be very difficult to keep track of all the IPs used in the environment. I came from spreadsheets and pinging devices to see if they are used and using IPAM takes that work out of it. Pretty happy with it.

We use IPAM in IT to manage IP addressing across all our offices and job sites. We use it for alerting on DHCP scope and have it integrated with UDT. We had no way to track IP addresses for all the job sites and used to manage the office IP addresses on an Excel sheet.
  • Alerting on DHCP scope
  • UDT integration
  • Find out IPs in use and available
  • Easier overall view - for example: show me all subnets and their names instead of drop downs.
SolarWinds IP Address Manager is best for small- to mid-sized IP address usage. We have over 90 job sites across the country that we manage. To keep track of it all on an Excel was cumbersome. We also use it for devices that get added/removed constantly. It's easy to run a scan and see what IPs are available and what are not. Additionally, we use it to track IP addresses in our cloud environments--some don't have an offering that shows you available IPs.

SolarWinds IP Address Manager helps me make sense of what is on my network at my locations and how many IPs are being taken up in my VLANs. Much easier to use than what is built into Windows. I can get alerted if I reach a threshold of IPs, which is important for our lab environment. I am never surprised by this tool on what's going on device-wise.
  • Lets me know how many IPs are being used in my network
  • Lets me know about any possible IP address conflicts
  • Gives me history of MAC addresses that have used this IP
  • Able to easily export my IP data
  • Would like to know what ports are open on the IPs
  • Would be useful if they helped you configure this with best practices when you get it
SolarWinds IP Address Manager is well suited for a medium- to large-sized business with lots of VLANs, so you can keep an eye on what's going on. For a small office, I think this would be overkill. Especially useful with lab environments and dev environments with lots of change, so you can keep a handle on it.

For years, we have used SolarWinds IP Address Manager to keep an inventory of all our networks, both IT and OT, which allows us to have more than 24000 IP controlled at present. The service makes it easier for us to know which networks are starting to have free IP availability problems and other value-added utilities that make routine tasks much easier.
  • Inventory
  • Discovery
  • Management of transient IP
  • DHCP management
  • DNS monitoring
  • Security
  • Networking
  • User Support
  • Develpoment
It works well in areas that already have management procedures, and works worse in those network departments that do not have established procedures.

Prior to purchasing SolarWinds IP Address Manager, my team primarily relied on manually updated Excel spreadsheets for IP management. Initially, this approach was manageable, but it very quickly become too difficult to maintain. Because of the manual approach, the spreadsheet would become outdated very quickly. With SolarWinds IPAM, the dynamic updates take away the overhead associated with the spreadsheets and allowed us to not worry as much about whether or not the information we're looking at is up to date. Also because the interface is web-based, my team had a much easier time collaborating and access the necessary information.
  • Host discovery
  • Easy setup
  • Dynamic IP updates
  • Web interface can be slow and clunky
  • Initially is not user friendly
  • Allow more options for organization of devices
SolarWinds IP Address Manager is useful to organizations ranging from small to large, but particularly small. The reason for this is due to the fact that a smaller organization will have less manpower to manage a manually updated spreadsheet. SolarWinds IPAM's ability to dynamically discover and update its database removes the overhead typically associated with spreadsheets.

We use IPAM to manage the up-time of all of our endpoints. If an alert goes out, an email is generated and a helpdesk ticket is created for someone to respond to.
  • Setup is easy.
  • IPAM works without issues. Up and down messages go out consistently
  • Management console is very intuitive.
  • Messages and notifications are easy to understand
  • The DNS Management could be better.
  • Importing custom properties could use some improvements.
  • Would like to see better reporting.
  • I would like to see some custom mapping to Visio
Solarwinds works really well in a single data center environment, but when you have multiple a downed line could end up in several hundred alerts. It would be nice to have some automation around data lines and actual servers or devices being down. For example, having the main data line notification silencing other alerts.

We are using SolarWinds IPAM for IP Address Management as well as IP Allocation and De-Allocation automation via orchestration tools such as Ansible, Terraform etc. Solarwinds IPAM is helping us to manage Subnets and automating the IP Management process. With the help of Solarwinds IPAM API operations we update DNS records, A Records, Manage IP Status, etc.
  • IP Management.
  • Subnet Grouping.
  • IP Management Automation using Automation tools such as Ansible.
  • add more IP Management vendors such as Bluecat
  • Easy integration with Service Now
  • DNS and DHCP Management additional security layer or a warning so that new users know that changes can impact their production environment
SolarWinds IPAM is well suited for requirements such as - Subnet Management, IP Management, IP Request requirements, DNS and DHCP Management. Since then API has evolved within SolarWinds and specially in IPAM module automation, things have become easy and that has increased the value of SolarWinds IPAM module. However few more changes would be required such pulling more information from DNS and DHCP server such as Gateway information, Host Mac Address and then integration with npm Discovery.

When I worked at the VA a few months ago, it was the primary IP Address Manager for our Network Operations Center. We also used it for keeping track of some of the other business lines within the VA. Here at the FAA, I am not sure of what scale it is used for yet, but it is in the organization.
  • Subnet Ranges
  • Categorization
  • Ease of Use
  • Better navigation for admins
  • Better graphical interface
  • More features
IP Address Manager was great for keeping track of what IPs were in use and which ones were available within the VA Network Operations Center. Unfortunately, other organizations didn't see the value in it and didn't keep track of their IPs like we did, so the tool wasn't being used to its fullest potential.

SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) is being used in a department with my customers environment. The customer approached me as he was looking for a solution to move away from his spreadsheet tracking of IP addresses. After research and running a trial of SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM), I suggested IPAM as his solution.
  • Network scanning
  • IP address tracking
  • Request certain IP addresses
SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) has enabled my customer to scan his entire network [to] determine devices, IP addresses, and SNMP information. This is an advantage of their previous method of IP tracking via a spreadsheet. The IP address request feature should be enhanced, so when a user requests an IP address through the interface, they should be given an option to select a certain IP address instead of IPAM defaulting to the next available address within the subnet.

We use SolarWinds IPAM to keep track of our networks. By doing this we get a better view of what we have, where we have it, and how much of a network is used.
  • Organizing networks with site names.
  • Keeping track of what IPs are in use and what is using it.
  • Ease of use for DHCP scope management.
  • The feel of IPAM is a bit clunky.
  • Adding large number of sites at one time is a hassle, as there is little you can do to customize the labeling on individual portion of what you are entering.
SolarWinds IPAM is well suited for frontline IT workers to easily track down a user without having to log into a networking device.
IPAM is cumbersome when you have a large number of different sites as it becomes a pain to navigate. If it was modernized a little bit then this could change

We are using it to hand out IP addresses and to verify if an address is in use or not and we are currently working on using it to help automate server builds to hand out IP addresses across our entire company to increase speed and help get server build done faster
  • Scans DHCP ranges for used IP's
  • Stays current with used IP's
  • Gives an easy to read graphical interface to see what IP's are in use
  • I hate the look of it
  • Manipulating the data on the page is very old school and clunky
  • Sometimes the discovery takes a long time to run
I find it works best on our smaller network segments and desktop segments anything with a /24 or smaller. on our /22 network segments it seems to not work nearly as well and seems to be cumbersome and not willing to run and when it does run we seem to always have issues or bomb out.

We have been centralising our IP allocation after years of neglect and Solarwind's IPAM turned out to be a great product making the whole experience much easier. Furthermore it gives us live monitoring of utilisation of particular subnets - which then allowed us to be proactive to problems, rather than wait for reports from users about devices not working.<br><br>I quite like the hierarchical structure we can put the subnets in, as this makes the whole management easier. We're still on a journey to leverage it's full potential but in our environment we tend to implement tools as far as needed to solve a problem (which it did) and refine it only when there's time to spare. I'm sure in coming months we'll have a chance to explore it's functionality further.
  • IP address management.
  • Subnet utilisation reporting.
  • Network structuring.
  • User interface is a bit complex.
  • Ability to mute/tailor alert icons for transport subnets.
Best case is for managing broad or complex addressing spaces. For simpler networks I would find it more difficult to justify the expenditure or setup effort.

SolarWinds IPAM is currently being used across several IT departments to manage the IP address/subnet allocation process across the enterprise. It is mainly used to allocate subnets and track subnet usage in our WAN location and datacenters. We have also added a few custom search capabilities that leverage the API and SQL database behind the product (search by subnet address, description, audit changes by username, etc.).
  • Highly customizable by making use of the API and SolarWinds' capability to add custom HTML code to views.
  • Presents a very efficient and user-friendly interface for viewing and managing subnets/IP Addresses
  • Integrates with NTA (starting w/ v2020.2).
  • IP Address allocation requests are easy to use.
  • Search capabilities (by subnet address, description, custom fields, etc.).
  • Better integration with other Orion platform modules.
  • Improved reporting capabilities.
  • Subnet allocation process (searching for free space in a set of subnets/supernets).
Suitable:
  • Managing DNS/DHCP reservations (integrates with major vendors of DNS/DHCP solutions).
  • Allocation of subnets/IPs.
  • IP address data visualization (Manage Subnets view, summary views).
  • Importing subnet data from a spreadsheet while maintaining structure (very useful when migrating from a different solution).
Less suitable:
  • Customized reporting.
  • Customized searching (currently only search by IP address and partial IP address are possible).

All IT personnel use SolarWinds IP Address Manager. Prior to our purchase of IPAM, we used a spreadsheet to keep track of our IP addresses. It was a mess and probably did more harm than good. It was often locked for editing by one person when someone else needed to update it. I believe that led to us having more than one version of the spreadsheet. Eventually, no one trusted it. SolarWinds IPAM is always accurate and always available to everyone who uses it. And IPAM is much more than a list of IPs. It is packed with features like scanning, reporting, alerts, and capacity planning.
  • With IPAM automated address scanning, we can be confident that we are looking at an up-to-date, accurate snapshot of our network.
  • The built-in alerts are a great safety net. We know that even if we aren't paying close attention to our IP address space, IPAM is. If a range is nearly full, IPAM lets us know before it becomes a real problem.
  • IPAM's event logging gives us insight into any and all changes made by our network engineers.
  • We have been using it for over three years, and the only complaint I have (or have ever heard) is that launching IPAM can be a slow process. It can be frustrating, but I don't think it has bothered anyone to the point that they reported it to SolarWinds support.
We have four facilities across two states. The number of network devices we have is constantly increasing and quite volatile. Users and their devices jump between facilities frequently. We also rotate manufacturing equipment, most of which has an IP address. I cannot overstate how difficult it would be to track all of these devices manually. IT cannot count on users keeping us informed of all this movement. SolarWinds IPAM does it for us.

We currently use SolarWinds IPAM to track used address space across a large global network that includes multiple data centers, many remote office sites, and a major cloud provider. We initiated a company-wide network a year ago and included expanding and re-IP'ing at most locations.

Our Systems and Network groups are the primary consumers of this tool, however, it has proved useful to other teams including our desktop and helpdesk users. For us, this tool gives us instant visibility into every subnet we use. Setup is point and click; 50+ DHCP/DNS servers and can be added in a few minutes. Summaries, Top charts, issues, and more are all instantly accessible. It also points out DNS record mismatches, IP conflicts, and other pertinent events from those servers allowing us to spot and resolve problems we did not know existed. This tool makes it easy to proactively fix problems!

The IP reservation feature can be used to eliminate spreadsheet based tracking easily. SolarWinds is aware of what is using every address in near real-time. That makes a lot more sense than a tracking spreadsheet!

  • Tracks actual IP address subnetting use in real time
  • Correlates DNS with DHCP in effective views and charts
  • Spots issues with IP Conflicts and DNS mismatches
  • Identifies devices not managed by SolarWinds by MAC vendor
  • Provides a workflow for IP assignment for non DHCP scopes
  • More configuration options for workflow options for IP assignment would be great.
  • Customizable forms for IP management workflow would be a huge plus.
  • A DHCP Server management feature similar to the Network config management would be awesome.
Managing a large and sprawling network with many subnets is almost effortless with this tool. Proactively solving issues with DHCP and DNS--Solawinds has both the information needed and the built-in alerts to fix issues before end-users report problems. Tracking and reporting out on IP address space usage, everywhere for everything. This tool has made completely renumbering every network at multiple organizations a far simpler process.

We are using IPAM for our department. It is used to manage our corporate network IP allocation.
  • IPAM database is highly customizable
  • It could be integrated with DNS and DHCP for FQDN and user identity cross-rerefence
  • It is lightweight (Solarwinds overall is clunky though)
  • GUI is hard to navigate, limited customization.
  • No search function???
  • No audit ability? Who deleted/added what?
  • No direct report function (I have to pull directly from SQL database)
  • Need a way to resort items (ascend/descend based on alphabet, IP.... etc)
IPAM comes with Solarwinds, so we used it. It offers integrity to single pane of glass and unified role-based-access-control. Other than that, it would lose to most of the free IPAM solutions out there.

IPAM is used by the network services team. We use it to monitor and address rogue clients attached to both the internal and external networks in our infrastructure. It provides detailed information as to clients, mac address, and IP. IPAM makes our lives easier by tracking down lost devices as well as identifying intruders' addresses that are currently connected to our environment. IPAM is effective and easy to use overall.
  • MAC address lookup
  • Matching IP address to device name
  • Search functionality
  • The search could be quicker.
  • SolarWinds does not always discover the latest MAC/IP of a device.
  • The interface could be easier to navigate to.
IPAM is an absolute necessity when dealing with multiple Machine servers, VMs, and hundreds of endpoint client devices. IPAM is not well suited for smaller organizations that do not have the infrastructure or sheer volume of clientele. IPAM can always come in handy when using a cross-site implementation no matter the size of the organization.

OLIN uses SolarWinds for IP management along with device management when we assign static IP addresses. We assign Supernets and subnets via SolarWinds IP Address Manager, which allows OLIN to define and assign an IP address range to a certain site on a global basis. Through SolarWinds IP Address Manager, we are able to see devices' MAC addresses and investigate devices that we do not have defined for security purposes.
  • Supernetting and Subnetting
  • Device to MAC address resolution
  • DHCP management
  • DNS management
  • Device MAC address resolution to hardware vendor
  • Copy VLAN feature when putting in new Supernets
  • Better functionality of search when adding subnets
SolarWinds IP Address Manager is best suited for IP address logging along with supernets and subnets being defined. The process to add subnets is a little cumbersome and needs some tweaking. Scanning for IP addresses in SolarWinds IP Address Manager is very straightforward and easy to do, so new users do not have trouble figuring it out. SolarWinds IP Address Manager is not as robust for DHCP and DNS as it should be and that's why Infoblox and other appliances are being used instead.

We can use the information returned by IPAM to determine if DNS is responding, how long ago a device was last seen, quickly launch a browser for that IP, etc.
  • Specific IP alerting
  • IP address tracking
  • Easily find and resolve IP conflicts and determine which devices are conflicting
  • If DNS isn't working particularly well, IPAM doesn't work particularly well
  • IPs seem to get "stuck" and will show as present when they're not
When a user plugs a laptop in onsite, since I am in another location, sometimes DNS isn't quick enough for me to be able to find their laptop. I use SolarWinds IPAM to scan their subnet and find the device so I can share a remote session (with Dameware) by IP. Best scenario for me. This software has loads of features, and if you don't use them all or most of them, it's definitely overkill. IP tracking is nice and conflict resolution while rare can be a big help, but since I deal mostly with one server and users, the features are too much for me.
